One of the largest businesses in McKinney is growing again with a major building addition in the works.

Encore Wire Corp., which has been in business for three decades, plans to construct a large new distribution center in McKinney.

Encore has been in business since 1989, when it started out with just 12 employees. It now has more than 1,300 workers in its McKinney headquarters and plants. The company manufactures electrical building wire and cable used in industrial building, homes, apartments and manufactured housing.

Encore has more than $1 billion a year in sales.

The manufacturer has filed building permits in McKinney to construct a 720,000-square-foot warehouse on South Airport Drive.

The site is across the street from Encore’s manufacturing and office complex.

The new building has a value of $52 million, according to the building permits.

The warehouse will be the company’s latest expansion in the last decade. Encore Wire has steadily increased the size of its plants.

In 2013, the company increased its land holdings in McKinney to almost 400 acres to allow for continued growth. The new warehouse is planned for one of those expansion sites.
