A subdivision improvement agreement between the city of Anna and DR Horton Homes likely paves the way for the construction of a section of Rosamond Parkway between US 75 and Anna High School.
The proposed 275 acre Woods at Lindsey Place development will include approximately 942 single-family lots as well as 600 multifamily units. A large segment of the proposed Rosamond Parkway extension traverses the southern section of this property. As part of the deal struck at the Jan. 12 council meeting, the developer has agreed to construct a two-lane road from the high school to US 75, where an exit and overpass are already in place. Public works director Greg Peters says this agreement will serve as the mechanism to build one of Anna’s most important roads.
“This gives us a complete road all the way from (State Highway) 5 to 75, which I think is critical,” he said. “It doesn’t just give us that access to 75, but also potentially opens up that 75 corridor for retail and commercial development because now people can get there from their homes, so you have the ability to have those types of services there.”
Long-term plans call for the road to eventually be expanded to six lanes. Before construction can begin, the city will need to acquire an additional vacant parcel of land between the development and the freeway.
The Woods at Lindsay Place will likely necessitate the extension of both Throckmorton Road and Ferguson Parkway. City officials are still exploring funding options for those projects. Mayor Nate Pike suggested that if the city can provide ready-for-construction plans, they may be eligible for county funding.
New Council Members Sworn In
Incoming Anna City Councilmen Randy Atchley and Stan Carver were sworn in during the council meeting. It was a long time coming for both men who began their campaigns nearly a year ago in anticipation of a May 2020 election. That contest was later moved to November after spring elections were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The two then had to endure contentious runoff elections before ultimately earning a majority of the vote in their December contests
The beginning of their terms marked the official end of John Beazley’s service on the council. He had previously been the longest tenured councilmember, having first been elected in 2014. He was honored with a city street sign bearing his name.
“John has been a tremendous asset to the city of Anna,” Mayor Pike said. “He’s a lifelong resident of this community and cares deeply about what is taking place in Anna. He’s been an excellent council member.”
Councilmembers chose Josh Volmer to replace Beazley as deputy mayor pro tem. Lee Miller will continue as mayor pro tem.
